I am excited about the website I
created. This is totally new to me and I hope to be able to use it in the
future. As I was reading the articles for this module I knew I wanted to keep
my website simple and clean, but functional for my students. When creating the logo,
I wanted to use something that tied into math. I thought the lines beside my
website name would remind people of equal signs. Math is all about solving some
sort of problem so an equal sign is almost always involved. Next, I wanted to
link my icons to useful resources that my students could use at home, or at
school. I sat for a while and thought about what students may need at home that
they may not have. The first thing my students ask me for is a calculator. I cannot
let them take the school calculators home but there are great sites out there
that provide all types of calculators. I knew a calculator had to be my first
icon. My second icon represents a video, because the second thing the students
do not have at home is a teacher explaining how to solve the problem. They may
write down the notes I give in class, but when they look back at the example
problem they may have no idea how I got what I did. This icon is linked to Khan
Academy which is a resource with a plethora of videos and examples. The last
thing I thought the students needed were more practice sheets. I linked my pencil
icon to a site including more practice.
I have never used Weebly before
this project but I grew to love it. It was super user friendly and saved
everything as I worked. Since I am new to web design I thought it was perfect
for me. I did not feel restricted in the least and could do everything I set
out to do for the project. I will say, it took me forever to figure out how to
link the Facebook and Twitter accounts but I finally did it! There isn’t any
one thing I am more proud of than another. I am proud of all of it! I never
would have thought I could create a website and now I am already planning on
how I can use it in my classroom next year!
