Comic Book Entry 2

I wanted to create images that looked like real super heroes. I searched for a while to find a software that would let me create my own. After making the characters I decided on just a few panels per page. I wanted the panels to be big enough to show the picture and the readers to understand what was happening.
I was never a comic book reader when I was growing up. I should have known that with technology, what I knew about them had changed. Comic Life 3 is a very cool application. I liked how you could delete and add what you wanted where. I feel like I found out something new about it every time I logged in. I am actually going to keep experimenting with it after this project is due. I am always looking for new and exciting ways to present information to students and draw them in and I never thought about a comic before. Probably because I assumed I would have to draw it myself.

Comic Life 3 was very user friendly so I would have to say the trickiest part of this project was creating my super heroes. After those were made the process was a breeze. My comic is nowhere near professional but I am still learning and hope my next comic will be better.

Comic Book Entry 1

In making this comic book I hope to show students that math can have purposes in the real world. I am usually asked at least once a day how they are going to use what I am teaching them once they graduate. Although this comic may be a little exaggerated, it will be the beginning of creating word problems in class based on real life examples.  They play video games all the time so I thought this theme would catch their attention.

Bobbie Does Math - Website Entry #2

I am excited about the website I created. This is totally new to me and I hope to be able to use it in the future. As I was reading the articles for this module I knew I wanted to keep my website simple and clean, but functional for my students. When creating the logo, I wanted to use something that tied into math. I thought the lines beside my website name would remind people of equal signs. Math is all about solving some sort of problem so an equal sign is almost always involved. Next, I wanted to link my icons to useful resources that my students could use at home, or at school. I sat for a while and thought about what students may need at home that they may not have. The first thing my students ask me for is a calculator. I cannot let them take the school calculators home but there are great sites out there that provide all types of calculators. I knew a calculator had to be my first icon. My second icon represents a video, because the second thing the students do not have at home is a teacher explaining how to solve the problem. They may write down the notes I give in class, but when they look back at the example problem they may have no idea how I got what I did. This icon is linked to Khan Academy which is a resource with a plethora of videos and examples. The last thing I thought the students needed were more practice sheets. I linked my pencil icon to a site including more practice.

I have never used Weebly before this project but I grew to love it. It was super user friendly and saved everything as I worked. Since I am new to web design I thought it was perfect for me. I did not feel restricted in the least and could do everything I set out to do for the project. I will say, it took me forever to figure out how to link the Facebook and Twitter accounts but I finally did it! There isn’t any one thing I am more proud of than another. I am proud of all of it! I never would have thought I could create a website and now I am already planning on how I can use it in my classroom next year!
